The Exhibition: ‘ Colours of my Mind ‘ is already hanging more than a week before I get around to post pictures of the opening. It was a wonderful night that Joke and I shared with friends interested in our work.

I was so fortunate to be paired with Sharon Moore from Ohio.

She was so good to enter my Squirrel into the Saunder Village Quilt Festival and sent me my ribbon and pictures this past week. The biggest bonus of the exchange is that I am the owner of a magnificent miniature quilt, intricately pieced!

Wonderful news: Made in Europe 3

The Bell Tower was selected for the Exhibition Made in Europe 3.  I am delighted!

Exhibition with Joke Buursma

On Friday Joke and I set up the exhibition:  ‘Colours of my mind’.  It was hard work but very rewarding to see our art quilts hanging in the Gallery of the Library of Mountmellick.
What a wonderful privilege to join forces with a great artist like Joke and be able to share my passion with others.

Snow Dyeing

I grabbed the opportunity yesterday...did some snow dyeing! Always a challenge to stay patient until the snow melted to see the results.
The sunrise this morning was spectacular!
I am inspired to see how much I can accomplish in the sewing room today.

I started preparing for the confetti workshop that I will give in 2 weeks. Looking forward spending time with ladies of the Northern Ireland Quilting Guild. Today I sorted scraps of colours ( mixing the ‘paint ‘) while thinking of the quilts they were leftovers from.

15 April 2018:  Realistic Appliqué Workshop with ladies of Western Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society.  It is always wonderful to visit my own branch and to spend time with the members.

European Patchwork Meeting 2018, September. Alsace

The European Patchwork Meeting in St Marie aux Mines, Alscace in France is an experience not to be missed! I enjoyed every minute. Enjoying wonderful exhibitions, minding the lovely SAQA one and meeting new quilters, all over Europe. The scenery in the mountains is fabulous and the French fruit tarts and coffee, served by the local inhabitants of the quaint villages, something to remember.

My quilt ‘Winter Surprise ‘ was accepted in the ‘In the Course of the Seasons’ exhibition and awarded the Quiltmania prize!

Workshop in Dumfries, Scotland 2017.

A dream came true when I was invited by Solway Quilters to teach a workshop in Dumfries! I could travel to Scotland to teach my passion! It was a wonderful experience, teaching such eager to learn ladies. They were very hospitable and to give a talk about my work on the Friday night well received.

Birmingham Festival of Quilts 2018

What a wonderful experience it was to attend the European Festival of Quilts, this year.

To see so many beautiful quilts, was very inspirational.
What a highlight to see a ‘Highly Commended’ stuck to ‘FORTY SHADES OF GREEN’!!!

‘ Charming rage’ was made for the Irish Patchwork Society Exhibition: Making Waves in July 2018.

Cotton and polyester wadding trapped behind grey tulle and densely quilted / embroidered with different threads. The rocks were collaged under black tulle. Derwent Inktense blocks were used for shading in certain areas.

My sister, Danél visited me for 3 weeks here in Ireland and inspired me to try to keep my blog up to date. She also brought me beautiful taupe fabric to bind a quilt that I made for our nephew, Nicolaas and his wife Jorette (Erasmus). I took remnants of the lace fabrics that Jorette used as bunting on their vintage wedding day in May 2016 and made a memory quilt. It was a wonderful project to work on and I tried to free-motion quilt feathers and some circle motives that I saw on the front door of the venue of the wedding. The bride and groom's names, wedding date and venue were all quilted in different blocks around the edge. Because the lace was stretchy and flimsy, I quilted it very densely to background fabric to try to strenghthen it. I am happy that Danél had enough room in her suitcase to take the quilt back to the couple in South Africa. Unfortunately I helped her packing in such a hurry last night after attaching a hanging sleeve and label that I forgot to take a proper picture of the finished piece.

I always try to make miniature versions of my bigger quilts to experiment with the quilting a made this small piece for my friend and colleague, Oxana to celebrate a special birthday last year in September.

Hubble- explorations in space

I made for the 2014 Irish Patchwork Society's Explorations exhibition. Silk and velvet were used and I enjoyed every minute working on it.

The Forest

I made this for Jacaranda Guild's 'Square and Rectangles' challenge - of course a forest. The way all the small squares and rectangles came together was a miracle. I got the inspiration during an early morning walk on my way to the Glenbarrow falls in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, Co. Laois. I loved the way the light filtered through the trees and causing  patterns on the ground. 

Still Life

 I made this quilt for a Benatex fabric challenge and my first attempt at a still life.

 

 

 

Modern

Reflections was made using only linen and my first modern quilt. I enjoyed quilting on the solid linen. It was part of the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland's 'Patterns' exhibition, 2013.
