Venice

Skill building in 2006 in PortElizabeth SAQuiltfestival with Pam Holland. Realistic (raw-edge fused) applique is used in so many of my works. This was the start: a replica of a photograph taken by Dr S Hirschowitz for the cover of the Menopause Update. (Used with his permission).

Two birdies on a sill

I showed Wapad Quilting group how to do the realistic (raw-edge) appliqué technique and used this simple picture as an example. My love of derelict buildings made me choose it from an old magazine.
This quilt is hanging in the reception area of 40 on Ilkey B&B Pretoria.

Namibian Sands of Time

The history of Kolmanskop, Namibia, is interesting but very sad. In the early 1900's, diamonds were discovered and fortune seekers from all over the world flocked to this part of the desert and a town was born and flourished. But 40 years later it died when more rich deposits of diamonds were discovered near Oranjemund and left behind a ghost town....left to the sands of time.
The background of the quilt was pieced with diamonds to portray the history. It is my own design.
